UNC System Exchanges
The UNC System offers two exchanges, the Language Exchange and the Elementary Mathematics Add-on Licensure (EMAoL).
These two exchanges are collaborative, technology-based learning using an online delivery method. The exchanges are available to degree-seeking students who are currently enrolled in one of the 17 participating UNC System institutions. Currently, employees of the UNC System are not permitted to participate in the Exchanges. Students are permitted to take up to six credit hours per semester (seven with a required lab) and all course offerings and exams are web-based.
Advising
Before registering for a course(s) via the UNC System portal, it is extremely important that you verify with your advisor that the course offering you want to take online, from another campus, will count towards your degree. If you do not consult with your advisor before taking the course, you stand the risk of taking a class that will not be accepted towards your degree.
Pre-Requisites
Keep in mind that some courses listed in UNC Exchange require prerequisite coursework, licenses or professional work. You must meet published prerequisites and restrictions for courses. Written permission and proof of successful completion of pre-requisites may be required. Foreign language courses may require placement tests. If you have any questions regarding prerequisites for a course you wish to take, please contact the instructor of the course via email.
Drop/Withdraw
If you are considering dropping or withdrawing from a UNC Exchange course, you will be following the academic dates and deadlines for UNC Charlotte (your home institution). Financial consequences should be considered when withdrawing. Please review the academic calendar for deadlines.
Transfer Credit
After successful completion and grading of the course, credit for the course is applied as transfer credit. The transfer equivalent and credit can be viewed on the student’s transcript under “Transfer Credit Accepted by Institution”. The grade is not factored into your GPA. No transfer grades below C will be accepted. To ensure courses are counted towards your degree, they should be approved by your advisor prior to registration. Undergraduate students are not required to provide a transcript for transfer credit to be applied, as the transfer process is automated.
Tuition & Fees
There are no additional application or enrollment fees associated with participating in the UNC Exchange program. Students are billed through UNC Charlotte (the home institution). Tuition and fees are determined by your classification, academic program, residency and courses. Find more information on tuition and fees.
Equivalency Finder
The Equivalency Finder helps UNC Exchange students find courses that have been approved for transferring to a selected course at UNC Charlotte (home campus.) Keep in mind that course equivalencies may change over time or may differ by degree program. You should consult with your advisor about specific course equivalencies and degree requirements. Utilize the Equivalency Finder to search for the equivalent course you would like to take.
