Graduating Students

Federal regulations require schools to prorate the Federal Direct Loan amounts for graduating undergraduate students when their final period of enrollment is less than a full academic year. Loan proration impacts undergraduate students applying for graduation who are receiving Federal Loans. This page explains how much you will receive.

Federal Direct Loan Proration – for Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students graduating after attending only one semester of the academic year will have their Federal Direct Loans prorated in their final term. This is necessary for you to receive the correct amount of your annual allotment for Direct Loans, since you will not be enrolled at UNC Charlotte for a full academic year and may not be eligible for a full academic year’s financial aid offer.

If you are only attending one semester during the academic year and you will be graduating, it is in your best interest to notify the Office of the Registrar and Office of Financial Aid that you plan to graduate before your student loan has disbursed at the beginning of that term.

Students who have notified us of graduating AFTER loans have been disbursed:

Your annual Federal Direct Loan limit may be prorated for your final term

The financial aid office will receive an official graduation list from the registrar’s office and your loans may be adjusted which could result in a bill with the University

Students who have notified us of graduating BEFORE loans have been disbursed:

Your annual Federal Direct Loan limit may be prorated for your final term

Your Federal Direct Loan will be correctly disbursed using the proration calculation below
